Winter roars back

Is it over yet? Not quite.

What could be the coldest spell of this winter is descending on the area, with temperatures plunging into the single digits and wind chills running well below zero forecast through Friday morning.

While sunny, today's high temperature is unlikely to get past 18 degrees.

But even that will feel rather warm considering when the wind blows, it will feel more like minus 7, according to AccuWeather. Tonight will remain windy, with a low temp of 5 degrees that is projected to have a wind chill that is truly Arctic-like: minus 21.

This deep cold spell is quite a contrast from Saturday, which saw a high temperature of 60 degrees that was just 1 degree shy of the record high for the date and had people thinking the brunt of winter was over.

Then again, March is known for offering us the wildest swings in temperature of any month and more wind than you need to fly a kite.

Wednesday is forecast to be mostly cloudy, with a high of 24 and low of 6 at night that should feel like minus 8. Thursday should be mostly sunny, with a high of 22 and wind chill of 0, and low of 4 at night that is expected to feel like minus 12 degrees, AccuWeather added.

Warmer temperatures are finally anticipated Friday, with a high of 38 degrees and low of 20.

Monday's high reached 43 degrees before a cold front blew in and the thermometer dipped sharply in late afternoon bringing with it, some heavy snow showers.
