'Afghans' should be hung in foyer of NA town hall

To the editor: I am a new arrival to North Attleboro and a subscriber to The Sun Chronicle. I obtain most of my local news from the paper and believe it is a fair assessment of the news.
Lately, I have been reading about the most recent "art" find, that being the painting given to the town of North Attleboro, not the school committee or the town selectmen, but the populace of the town of North Attleboro.
I was upset about a week or two ago between watching the selectmen on the local TV channel and reading the comments from the school committee regarding how they should dispose of the painting and the use of the money that would be received. I believe that both groups are overstepping their powers.
If we were to keep the painting, there would be no better place for it but on the wall of the foyer in the town hall. It would be safe in the building, which I believe is secured with an alarm system and just across the street from the police station.
It could be viewed from the outside day and night if illuminated in the evening.
If the town is determined to dispose of this exceptional piece of art, they should look no further than our own neighboring town of Wrentham.
Some years ago the Sweatt family established a trust fund for the town of Wrentham, which has allowed that town to fund many projects over the years just from the interest. Maybe we should look seriously into this example of good management of found money.
