Sparse turnout expected in Norton
Top Headlines NORTON No more than 15 percent of the 11,065 voters registered for the election are expected at the polls, Assistant Town Clerk Anne Rodrigues said Monday. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Voters in Precincts 1 and 2 will vote at Norton High School, 66 West Main St. Those in Precincts 3, 4 and 5 vote at the Yelle Elementary School, 64 West Main St. One race, for school committee, is on the ballot. First-term incumbent Margaret Werner and former two-term member Donna Gradie are vying for one three-year seat on the board. A second race is being created through a write-in campaign. Two-term incumbent Town Moderator Phillip Warren Jr. is running for re-election. Former selectman and finance committee member William Gouveia has launched a write-in campaign to replace him. Heavy rains, and possibly a thunderstorm, threaten to limit voting. One to 2 inches of rain are possible, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.
