Man accused of trying to steal drugs in break-in

ATTLEBORO - A Brockton man was ordered held in jail without bail Tuesday after pleading innocent to breaking into a North Attleboro man's apartment to steal his marijuana.

Durrell D. Blanchard, 20, was arrested in connection to the break-in at 60 Avery St., in North Attleboro, after being stopped in a car in Attleboro Monday afternoon.

In a twist, the victim of the break-in, Adam H. Peltier, 26, also was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

North Attleboro officers John Grim and Ryan Mooney responded to Peltier's apartment for a call about the break-in and confiscated what they said was a bag of marijuana, $260 cash, a scale and alleged packaging paraphernalia, according to police.

Peltier told police he was asleep in his bedroom when he was awakened by an intruder in his kitchen. The intruder fled the apartment empty-handed when discovered and fled with others in a gold car, Peltier told police, according to a police report.

Peltier was arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court, where innocent pleas were entered by the court on his behalf. He is free without bail.

Blanchard was arrested after the car he was in was stopped at Pine and Maple streets in Attleboro by Attleboro police officer Leo Fontaine.

Blanchard gave Detective Daniel Arrighi a videotaped statement in which he allegedly admitted to breaking into the apartment because he heard marijuana was in the apartment. He allegedly told police he did not know Peltier, according to police.

Blanchard pleaded innocent Tuesday to breaking and entering in the daytime while placing a person in fear.

At the request of North Attleboro police prosecutor Christopher Ciccio, he was ordered held without bail because he faces pending charges in Wrentham District Court of receiving stolen property.

Blanchard is due back in court May 29 for a pretrial hearing.
