GIRLS TRACK: North sets up Hock showdown

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The motivation is there for the North Attleboro High girls' spring track team.

Beat Mansfield High Tuesday and clinch the Hockomock League dual meet championship.

And do so on a day in which the Rocketeer track family will honor Dwight Estey for his quarter-century of serving the NAHS track program by dedicating the track at Beaupre Field in his name.

The Rocketeers set the stage for all the hoopla by outscoring Franklin 83-53 Thursday in a Hockomock League meet.

Senior captain Kristin McLoughlin won three events (200, 400, long jump), while Katy Flannery won the triple jump with a personal best clearance, took second in the long jump and third in the 200 (at 26.6) in helping North improve to 7-1 overall.

A sweep of the 300 hurdles by Kristy Deininger (50.1), Amanda Cangiano (50.9) and Sarah Krasney (51.3) got the Rocketeers rolling. Julianne Cappadona won the 100 (12.7) and took second behind McLoughlin in the 200 at 26.5.

** Kelly Allen captured a pair of events as NORTON dropped a 77-55 decision to Medfield in a Tri-Valley League meet.

Allen remained undefeated in the discus in league competition, winning the event against the Warriors with a distance of 107-6. She owns one of the top throws in the discus in the state this year. She also finished in first place in the shot put with a distance of 32-10.

Courtney Williams captured the 100 meters with a time of 13.4 seconds and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet.

The Lancers, now 1-6-1 overall, will compete in the MSTCA State Coaches Meet on Saturday in Somerville. Norton will then travel to Westwood for a league meet on Monday afternoon.

**Amanda Cobb, Azinga Ming and Elizabeth Braeley all placed in two events as TRI-COUNTY fell 105-26 to Bristol-Plymouth in a Mayflower League Meet.

Cobb, a sophomore, captured the two mile with a time of 16:00 and finished in second place in the mile with a time of 7:21. Ming won the 100 meters with a time of 13.3 seconds and placed second in the long jump with a distance of 13-4. Braeley finished second in the 400 meters with a time of 67 seconds as well as the discus with a throw of 71 feet.

The Cougars, now 0-7 overall, will travel to Kingston to face Sacred Heart in a league meet on Tuesday afternoon.
