BOYS TRACK: North holds up its end of bargain

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The stage has been set for the showdown for Hockomock League supremacy.

Elijah Harris won two events, while the North Attleboro High boys' spring track team swept the 300 hurdles, 100 sprint and javelin events in taking a 95-41 victory over Franklin Thursday in a Hockomock League meet at Beaupre Field.

The Rocketeers are now 7-1 overall, 7-0 in the Hockomock League and will host also unbeaten Mansfield Tuesday for the Hockomock League dual meet championship. Prior to the meet, the track surface at Beaupre Field will be officially recognized as the Dwight Estey Track, a salutation for the retired Rocketeer track field general.

"Once again it was not just one kid, it was a team effort," said North coach Derek Herber. Harris clocked an 11.5 in winning the 100 and a 52-second flat time to take the 400.

However, it was Ryan Doherty clocked a 42.5 first place time to lead a sweep of the 300 hurdles and a strong 1-2 showing from Dan McKim and Zach Norige in the 100 hurdles that pushed North into the forefront ahead of Franklin.

Christian Pirnie won the long jump and took second in the 200, Brad Willox clocked a 4:36 time to win the mile and Phil Tryon uncorked a personal best first place javelin throw of 168-10 to further guide the Rocketeers.

**Emerson Almeida and Brian Bettencourt each won two events, but NORTON (5-3) suffered a 69-67 loss to Medfield in a Tri-Valley League meet. Almeida won both the high jump and 400, while also anchoring the first place 4x400 relay team to a season best time. Bettencourt clocked an 11.5 time to win the 100 and a 23.7 to win the 200 for the lancers, while Mark Ledbetter won the shot put and took second in the discus. Cam Parker clocked a personal best 4:51 in the mile run, while Matt Sumner went a personal best 18-9 in winning the long jump.

**Trailing 64-62 heading into the final two events of the meet, TRI-COUNTY won both relay races to emerge with a 72-64 victory over Bristol-Plymouth in a Mayflower League Meet.

The Cougars won the 4x100 relay with the team of Lucas Mistler, Ryan Bartlett, Mark Cividino and Shawn Roche running a time of 47.24 seconds. Tri-County then captured the meet with a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay. The quartet of Tim Boss, Terrence Rooney, Bill Mussig and Drew Flamenco combined for a time of 4:00 to win the event.

Mistler placed in a total of four events for Tri-County. He won the 200 meters with a time of 24.9 seconds and captured the triple jump with a distance of 36-2. Mistler also placed third in the long jump and was a member of the winning 4x1 relay squad.

Cividino won the 100 meters with a time of 11.5 seconds. Jeff Melien captured the mile with a time of 5:22 and also finished in second place in the two mile.

Tri-County, now 4-3 overall, will travel to Kingston to face Sacred Heart in a league meet on Tuesday afternoon.
