BASEBALL: King Philip clinches tournament

MANSFIELD - The King Philip Regional High Warriors are MIAA Tournament-bound.

The Warriors notched their second victory in as many days, securing a 4-1 victory over Mansfield High Tuesday in a Hockomock League game.

The Warriors (10-6) scored pairs of runs in the third and fifth innings, while Brandon Howard shackled the Hornets on the pitching mound for KP, allowing just one run through five-plus innings of work.

Once again Alex Palioca came to the rescue in a relief pitching role for KP. After notching four outs, two on strikeouts, to put down Stoughton over the final two frames of a two-run Warrior victory Monday, Palioca came in and stranded Mansfield runners at second and third in the fifth and and sixth innings and retired the side in order in the seventh.

KP returns to action today at against Oliver Ames, while Mansfield (5-11), eliminated from postseason consideration, entertains Sharon.

DARTMOUTH - The Spartans limited Bishop Feehan to merely two hits in winning the Eastern Athletic Conference game. Jack Ferreira retired 13 Shamrock batters on strikes along the way.

Jordan Davidner had a second inning single and Sam Dodge a sixth inning single for the Shamrocks, who were unable to support a four-hit pitching effort from Lucas Gagne. The Spartans scored their lone run as a result of two walks and a dropped ball after a fielder's choice forceout at the plate.

The Shamrocks (8-5, 6-1 EAC) entertain Bishop Connolly Thursday.
