GIRLS' TENNIS: KP still unbeaten; Feehan wins EAC

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The King Philip Regional High girls' tennis team overcame injury, adversity and a staunch upset bid effort by the Rocketeers of North Attleboro to prevail 4-1 in a Hockomock League match.

"I didn't know where the third point would come from," said KP coach Bob Goldberg, as the Warriors' No. 1 singles player Courtney Puddester was suffering from elbow soreness and No. 3 singles player Lauren Trudeau was doubling over in pain as a result of a stomach virus.

"It could have gone either way," added Goldberg as Puddester rallied for a three-set win over North's Ashley Llewellyn and Trudeau scored a 6-4 second set verdict over Grace Sandland.

Moreover, it was KP sophomore Sarah Shipley avenging her lone Hockomock League loss through the past two seasons, carving out a pair of 6-2 wins from North's Michelle Lechtanski which proved to be pivotal.

The Warriors (16-0) needed that too because North had won the first set of both doubles matches. "It was super close, a great team win for us," added Goldberg. At No. 1 doubles, North's duo of Brenna Pereira and Tori Morris ran their record together to 13-0, bouncing back from a first-set loss to Julie Kraby and Allison Agnew, losing just two games over the final two sets.

KP meets Oliver Ames today, while the Rocketeers (10-5, 9-4) entertain Stoughton.

clinched the Eastern Athletic Conference title with a 4-1 victory at Bishop Stang. Leah White lost just two games in taking her No. 1 singles match, Siobhan Licudine avenged an early-season, straight-set loss at No. 2 singles, while freshman Nadia Hashem made an impressive varsity debut at No. 3 singles, that despite losing a 25-game marathon. The Shamrocks (13-1, 7-0 EAC) travel to Bishop Connolly Thursday.

had to work long and hard to trump Case 3-2 in a South Coast Conference match. Lindsey Barbehenn won a pair of 6-4 sets at No. 1 singles for D-R, while Leslie Briggs won a 22-game marathon at No. 2 singles. The Falcons (5-5) meet Bourne Thursday.

Taking all three singles matches in straight sets, (4-6) scored a 4-1 victory over Bourne in a South Coast Conference match. The Warriors travel to Apponequet today.
