LACROSSE: Cavanaugh leads T-C boys




EASTON - Mike Cavanaugh scored a pair of fourth-quarter goals to propel the Tri-County Regional High boys' lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over Southeastern in a Mayflower League match on Thursday afternoon.

Southeastern took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter before Tri-County scored twice to close the gap to 3-2 after one. Cavanaugh and Brendan Clist had the goals for the Cougars in the first quarter.

The teams then battled to a 6-6 deadlock at the half and a 8-8 tie after three quarters. The Hawks took a 9-8 lead in the fourth quarter before Cavanaugh's two goals sent Tri-County to the victory.

Cavanaugh finished the game with six goals and two assists, while Clist had a total of three goals. Andrew Gregg also collected one goal and one assist, while Jake Crowley had one assist.

Jamie McLaughlin registered the win in net for the Cougars with a 14-save performance. Tri-County, now 10-4 overall and 10-3 in the league, will host Blackstone Valley Regional in a non-league match on Monday afternoon. Oliver Ames girls 15, North Attleboro 5

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Shannon Morse scored a pair of goals as the Rocketeers fell to the Tigers in a Hockomock League match.

Oliver Ames built a 6-2 advantage at the half and then outscored North Attleboro 9-3 in the second half.

Katie Noll, Nicole Marceau and Jess Perilli also scored goals for the Rocketeers, who dropped to 1-14 overall and 0-13 in the league. North Attleboro will host Bishop Feehan in a non-league match on Monday afternoon. The Rocketeers' lone win of the season came against the Shamrocks.

Bishop Feehan boys 8, Fairhaven 4

FAIRHAVEN - Mike Donovan scored three goals and Keith Donovan added two as the Shamrocks defeated the Blue Devils in a non-league match.

Bishop Feehan held a 2-1 edge after the first quarter and increased its advantage to 5-3 at the half. Fairhaven closed the only goal in the third quarter to close the gap to 5-4, but the Shamrocks scored three times in the fourth for the win.

Patrick Boyland, Ryan Gormley and Brian Webb also scored goals for Bishop Feehan, while freshman Jack Pettine collected 13 saves on the way to the win in net.

The Shamrocks, now 5-2 overall, will host Bishop Connolly on Saturday at 10 a.m. before entertaining North Attleboro on Monday at 7 p.m.

Bishop Feehan girls 13, Fairhaven 8 ATTLEBORO - Sophomore Cori Semple scored seven goals, four during the second half as the Shamrocks rallied for their first victory of the season. Semple tied the match at 5-5 for Feehan in the final minute of the first half.

Meghan Leavey added two g oals and three assists. Samantha Mason had two goals, while Maggie Ross and Ashley Rainha each had one. Jamie Coyne totaled nine saves in goal for the Shamrocks (1-7), who next meet North Attleboro Monday.

Franklin boys 14, Foxboro 2

FRANKLIN - Mike Hayes scored a goal as the Warriors fell to the Panthers in a Hockomock League match.

Foxboro, now 10-7 overall, will travel to Natick for a non-league match on Tuesday afternoon.

Franklin girls 18, Foxboro 8

FOXBORO - Brisa Shaw and Ashley Appel scored two goals apiece for the Warriors, who gave a solid all-around effort on Senior Day despite suffering a Hockomock League loss at home.

Now 6-11, the Warriors close the season Monday at home against Oliver Ames.
