Ralston, Revs topple Toronto

FOXBORO - Twice, the goalpost set up goals for Steve Ralston.
The New England Revolution's veteran midfielder scored twice in a 2-1 victory over Toronto F.C. Saturday at Gillette Stadium.
In boosting his team-best goal scoring total to six, Ralston has now scored five goals over the past five matches, having four match-winning goals.
"I was pretty fortunate, I was just trying to be in a dangerous place," said Ralston, who has carried the Revolution offense on his back in the absence of Taylor Twellman.
First it was Ralston following up Adam Cristman's header which rang the right goalpost in the 12th minute for the go-ahead goal.
Then it was Ralston following up a drive by Kheli Dube of the crossbar in the 59th minute.
Opportunity knocked twice and Ralston knew what to do with the chances.
"When he follows up, he reads it well, he stays calm," said New England coach Steve Nicol of Ralston being in position. "Certainly, coming from the middle of the pack into the box, it's experience."
Ralston matched his goal-scoring total of two seasons ago in giving New England a 2-0 lead in the 59th minute. Dube unleashed a wicked drive off the right wing, the ball bouncing right back to Ralston 12 yards out. He feigned a one-timer of a left-foot shot, shuffled the ball back to his right foot and chipped a shot to the top right corner of the Toronto net.
Ralston's first goal of the match was equally opportunistic. Dube sent a ball into the penalty box area from the left wing, where Cristman headed the ball. Once again the ricochet went right to Ralston, who beat Toronto defender Jim Brennan for space and sent the ball past rookie goalie Brian Edwards.
In the meantime, New England goalie Matt Reis (three saves) was denied his sixth shutout of the season, when Toronto scored an "own goal" in the 78th minute - Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph knocking the ball in when he and Toronto's Maurice Edu both went up to head the ball.
"If we can pass the ball like that and make chances, we'll be happy," added Nicol of New England having command on the field, but perhaps, not as much on the scoreboard., "It was the most complete performance we've had, we passed the ball as well as we've done."
In improving to 9-4-3 overall (4-2-2 in Foxboro), New England extended its unbeaten streak over Toronto to four matches (3-0-1), having an 11-3 goal differential.
"We've been talking about how sluggish we've been from the opening whistle," added Ralston of New England taking time to create a consistent attack, especially at home, where they have scored 12 goals in eight matches. "That was the first time, in a long time, that we passed the ball well. It was fortunate for me, the ball landed right at my feet."
