Police: Kidnapper brought NY woman to Attleboro and back
BY RICK FOSTER SUN CHRONICLE STAFF
ATTLEBORO - A New York man allegedly kidnapped a woman and drove her to Attleboro in the trunk of his car before she convinced him to return her to New York state.
The bizarre weekend kidnapping occurred when the 40-year-old New York resident allegedly drove the woman to his home in Vernon, bound her and taped her mouth and placed her in the trunk of his car. However, when the pair arrived in Attleboro, the woman apparently convinced her abductor to drive her back home.
Steven M. Enos of Vernon was charged with second-degree kidnapping and held in lieu of $50,000 bail following his arraignment Sunday, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
Enos, whose mother lives in Attleboro, apparently had been intending to hold the woman here, sheriff's spokesman Richard Dodge said. The victim's name was withheld.
A news release said Enos jumped out of the vehicle after returning to Vernon, and the victim drove to the home of a friend where she called police. Enos reportedly turned himself in to sheriff's deputies Sunday morning.
Enos is scheduled to be back in court later this week. Attleboro Police Sgt. Arthur Brillon is investigating to determine whether to bring charges against Enos.
Attleboro police are reviewing the case to determine in Massachusetts charges should be brought against Enos. |
