Seekonk knocks off Post 312
SEEKONK - The Seekonk American Legion team managed to throw a wrench in the Zone 9 standings, upsetting first place South Attleboro Monday night, 6-3.
A five-run fifth inning did the damage as third-place Seekonk improved to 14-5-2, while South Attleboro had its first-place lead cut to just one game over Westport, Post 312 dropping to 18-2-1 in the Zone.
Colby Andrade pitched a complete game for Seekonk, giving up two earned runs and striking out five.
South Attleboro got two runs off Andrade in the second inning after a double by Greg Najarian, an error and then sacrifice flies by Greg Dusel and Brent Burns.
An RBI single by Billy Cosmopolus got Seekonk on the board in the first inning, but Seekonk got five of its nine hits in the fifth to break open the game. Bob Jeanotte and Dan Charest had singles and stolen bases then Cody Callahan had an RBI single. A two-run Cosmopolus put Seekonk on top for good then Jeff Olson had an RBI double and Jay DeMelo a sacrifice fly.
Brian Callan started for Post 312 but was chased in the fifth.
South Attleboro moved to 22-3-2 overall and plays today against Easton today while Seekonk travels to play Somerset today. |
