Russo, Brown win YMCA TRY-athlons
WRENTHAM - Peter Russo was probably on his second helping on the post-race spread Sunday when the second-place finisher at the Hockomock YMCA TRY-athlon crossed the tape.
That's because Russo, Sunday's overall winner, conquered the course in a solid 53:45, nearly five minutes quicker than his closest competition. The Rumford, R.I. native not only won the overall race, but the 43-year-old won his age group by nearly 13 minutes.
Russo completed the 500 meter swim in 4:26 and the ending two-mile run in 12:26, but he made up his ground with the bike, posting a 35:25, the best time on the bike by nearly three minutes. Second place went to Portland, Maine's Jonathan McGonagle, who completed the course in a time of 58:15, the 20-year-old winning his age group by three minutes.
The top female was also the top local finisher as Wrentham's Marleigh Brown was a close third at 58:50. Mansfield's Dan Augustyn was fourth at 59:37.
