Callan puts out the fire, Post 312 rallies

ATTLEBORO - It was Brian Callan to the rescue for the South Attleboro American Legion baseball team.

In the opening round game of the Zone 9 playoffs Sunday, top-seeded Post 312 found itself down 4-0 after two innings against sixth-seed Easton. But Callan relieved starter Lucas Gagne and hurled five innings of shutout baseball, allowing South Attleboro to rally for a 7-4 victory in the best-of-three series.

Callan (7-1) allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out four.

South Attleboro pulled to within a run in third inning on a two-run double by Ryan Lee (3-for-4) and and RBI-fielder's choice by Matt Boulter. Post 312 tied the game in the fifth on an RBI-single by Greg Dusel.

And finally in the sixth, South Attleboro pulled away on run-scoring singles by Lee and James Kelly (2-for-2) and an RBI-double by Boulter.

South Attleboro (24-4-3) had 11 hits in the game. The series switches to Easton tonight at 5 p.m.
