Reminder in North: Town will call tonight

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Phones will be ringing throughout North Attleboro tonight as the town conducts a test of its reverse-911 telephone system.

The telephone system, known as Connect-CTY, allows town officials to disseminate messages to every telephone number stored in the notification database.

The database includes all publicly available resident and business telephone numbers in town that are supplied by phone service providers. The data is only accessible by emergency personnel.

Residents who receive a call do not have to do anything.

Residents who do not receive a call can request to be added to the system by visiting the town's Web site at north-attleboro.ma.us and clicking on "sign-up now services by Connect-CTY." Residents can enter up to three phone numbers, including cell phones and two e-mail addresses.

Residents also can have their information added to the database by calling 508-699-0100.

The test will be conducted at 7 p.m.
