NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police arrested an alleged drunken driver Thursday night after a motorist with a cell phone called police to report a car driving erratically and speeding along several streets.
The motorist followed the 1991 Lincoln Town car and obtained the license plate number, but lost sight of the vehicle at Broadway and West Street around 10:15 p.m., police said.
Officer Gary Maitland was in the area and spotted the car at Broadway Extension and West Street and stopped the driver.
Multiple charges
John F. Veiga, 27, of 1309 Newport Ave. in Pawtucket, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and failing to drive within marked lanes, police said.
Police allege a breath-alcohol test taken by Veiga registered 0.16 percent, or twice the legal limit of intoxication.
He did not appear at his arraignment in Taunton District Court Friday morning and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
