No owner comes forth yet, but a firefighter agrees to take feline
ATTLEBORO - No one had claimed the young cat rescued from a tributary of the Ten Mile River on Tuesday, but the feline will have a place to call home.
An Attleboro firefighter will take the cat if its owner does not claim it, said Bob Bamberg, owner of Attleboro's Old Barn. Firefighters brought the orange, black and white female to the store to be warmed up following its rescue from cold water running through a West Street business site Monday afternoon.
Bamberg said one family came into the store early Tuesday morning, hoping the young cat was one they had lost because it resembled the one pictured in The Sun Chronicle.
However, it was not their cat, he said.
Bamberg said he received one or two other phone inquiries regarding adoption of the cat.
Meanwhile, the friendly cat has been following Bamberg around. Slightly dehydrated when it arrived, Bamberg said the cat is now "doing fine," after receiving plenty of food and water, as well as a bath.
"She's just a nice cat," he said.
It's not clear how the cat found its way to the stream, and Bamberg said because the cat is friendly, it obviously had a home at one time. "Perhaps she was someone's pet who escaped, or it was abandoned," he said.
