Local teams began the quest for an MIAA championship Wednesday, as the field hockey tournament started with Foxboro's victory over Dedham in a preliminary round game.
Today, Dighton-Rehoboth, seeded 12th in the Division 1-South Sectional, travels to fifth-seeded Wellesley at 2:30 in a first round game. Attleboro, seeded ninth in the same bracket, begins its postseason schedule on Friday when the Bombardiers travel to eighth-seeded Dennis-Yarmouth at 2:30 p.m. Meanwhile, Mansfield, seeded fourth in the bracket, plays host to 13th-seeded Barnstable at the same time. King Philip, the last team in at the 20th seed, fell to Barnstable in a preliminary game on Wednesday.
Seventeenth-seeded Foxboro is the only local team in the Division 2-South tournament. After beating 16th-seeded Dedham, the Warriors have the unenviable task of traveling to top-seeded Harwich on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The volleyball tournament begins on Friday with five local teams in the mix.
In the Division 1-South Sectional, 13th-seeded Mansfield, who just made the tournament with a 10-10 record, has to travel to fourth-seeded Barnstable on Friday at 7 p.m. in a first round game.
In the same bracket, third-seeded North Attleboro earned a bye, and will take on the Walpole/Brockton winner on Monday night at home.
Sixth-seeded Bishop Feehan is just above seventh-seeded Dighton-Rehoboth in the Division 2-South Sectional. Feehan plays host to 11th-seeded Pembroke on Friday at 4 p.m. while D-R welcomes 10th-seeded Somerset at 7 p.m.
Tri-County rounds out the local contingent in the volleyball pairings, seeded 11th in the Division 3-Central bracket. The Cougars travel to sixth-seeded Trinity Catholic on Friday night at 7 p.m.
The boys' and girls' soccer seedings and pairings are due out today.
