NORTH ATTLEBORO - Police allege two men robbed a sleeping man they knew after one of them put an anti-anxiety pill into the 55-year-old victim's beer and took his wallet when he fell asleep in his apartment.
The two men then took $220 cash from the man's wallet and purchased crack cocaine for a night of partying, police said.
One of the suspects, Jeremy J. Angell, 28, of 177 Park St. in North Attleboro, was arraigned Monday in Attleboro District Court. Police are seeking to arrest his alleged accomplice.
Angell was ordered held in jail without bail because he is currently on probation for burglary for which he served three months of a one-year jail term. He faces a probation violation hearing Dec. 22.
Angell pleaded innocent to larceny from a person and conspiracy to commit larceny and three other charges, including intimidation of a witnesses, related to his contact with a witness in the case.
Angell told investigators the other man put a Xanax pill in the victim's beer at the man's High Street apartment and waited for him to fall asleep, police said.
The incident allegedly occurred last Tuesday and was reported to police by the victim the following day. Angell was arrested Friday after an investigation by detectives Sgt. John Reilly and Daniel Arrighi and Patrolman Chad Cerce.
