Students from Bishop Feehan, Attleboro and North Attleboro high schools gather on the front lawn of North Attleboro Principal Bob Gays home in Attleboro to promote the One FAN initiative. FAN (Feehan, Attleboro, North) is a fundraising campaign to raise money for local food pantries. Gay is standing on the steps, center.
The longstanding football rivalry between North Attleboro and Attleboro high schools may be part of the fun Thanksgiving Day, but students on the sidelines will be putting the rivalry aside to work together for a good cause.
Students from North Attleboro, Attleboro and Bishop Feehan high schools have been working together throughout the football season to raise money to feed the hungry as part of a project called One FAN.
The big Thanksgiving Day football game will be no different, with students collecting money to help local food pantries and to help pay for the area's annual holiday dinner, which is held on Christmas Day.
"The idea is having the three schools work together on one goal - to feed the hungry by building up the food pantries and soup kitchen and raising money for the Ed Tedesco Memorial Christmas Dinner," said Susan Caldwell, a North Attleboro High School teacher.
"It's been a great way to foster some collegiality between the schools."
The One Fan program came together as Feehan Principal Bill Runey, North Attleboro Principal Robert Gay and Attleboro Principal Jeffrey Newman agreed to join forces for a combined effort.
Students have enthusiastically embraced the fundraising project.
As part of that effort, high school students have created lawn signs shaped like the number one and bearing the letters "FAN" for Feehan, Attleboro and North Attleboro.
Caldwell said the signs will be cropping up in neighborhoods around the area amongst supporters of the program.
